About Menai Suspension Bridge
The first modern suspension bridge. Designed by Thomas Telford. Connects Anglesey to mainland Wales. The road deck hangs 30 m above the Menai Strait to allow tall-masted ships to pass. Chain cables were replaced with steel in 1938.
