About Rialto Bridge
The oldest of four bridges spanning the Grand Canal. Replaced a wooden bridge that collapsed twice and burned once. Designed by Antonio da Ponte. Three walkways and shops on both sides. Took 3 years to build. Critics said it would collapse - it has stood for 430+ years.
